Simple question
But apparently a very complicated answer. :banghead:
It all started when I got the invoice for my December car payment. On it, it had total amount due of around $428 but regular scheduled payment of about $250. For the entire duration of the loan, payments have been about $250. So, because of the differing numbers, I called Wells Fargo on December 8th during my lunch break to get things straightened out.
The lady I talked to told me that I could make the regular scheduled payment amount and NOT be charged any late fees. My first mistake was believing that what she told me was correct. I mean … don’t you think that the reps who work for Wells Fargo would give their customers accurate information? Apparently not.
I had checked my account online after the first of January to see if there was a payoff amount listed. I thought that I would have my final payment due in January. When I pulled up my account, there was a $10 late fee on there. WTF?!? I made my payment online on December 17th. The due date was December 20th. It wasn’t late.
So, on January 5th, I called Wells Fargo. After being on hold for a while, I spoke with a gentleman who told me that he would put in the request (or whatever they have to do) to have the late fee removed from my account. He told me to call back this week Tuesday or Wednesday to check on the status. He was very helpful. Or so I thought.
I called Wells Fargo again today during my lunch. I basically got the runaround for almost the entire time. I was on the phone with them … mostly on hold, for almost my entire lunch hour. When I first called, it didn’t take too long to get a real person. I explained the situation and he said he would look into things. After being on hold for about 5 minutes or so, the call got disconnected. :censored:
So … I called back. Again, I didn’t have to wait too long before I got a real person. A different person of course. And I had to go through all that crap again of telling my story (even though I had told him I had gotten disconnected from another rep … I thought he would forward me to that person. I think he really hung up on me because he thought the issue was too complicated). After I explained things, the second guy put me on hold to look into things. After being on hold for what seemed like forever, he came back. He was NOT helpful at all. I don’t know how many times I asked what the deal was with my account … why did I get charged a late fee and why is my account past due? I made my payment on time. I paid the amount the lady had said I was supposed to pay. Grrr …
This guy said he’d have his supervisor audit my account to see what the problem was. He insisted on forwarding me to customer service so they could go over my account with me (basically tell me everything that I could see online …).
So … on hold AGAIN until a customer service rep “was available”. She was the ONLY helpful person I talked to. I AGAIN explained the situation. She told me that the lady I had talked to on December 8th should NOT have told me that I could pay the “regular scheduled payment”. That my December payment was supposed to be my final payment, and that the entire $428 (or so) was really what was due. :censored: :banghead:
So … because I talked to a stupid uninformed representative, I’m getting screwed over. The lady I talked to today (the helpful one) said that she would have the late fee removed from my account (damn right! why should I pay for someone else’s screw up?). And apparently the guy I had talked to on January 5th had never put in for the late fee to be removed. She told me that the removed late fee should show up on my account within one business day.
But that didn’t help the fact that my account still said it was past due. I don’t want my credit report to have a blemish on it because SOMEONE ELSE fucked up and gave me incorrect information. But this lady assured me that as long as my account is not 30 days past due, that it would not go on my credit report. That better be true. I get paid on January 15th. I had planned to make my last online payment on January 16th or 17th (since my check won’t be actually available until the 16th since it won’t get deposited until after 5pm. Stupid bank hours. :G-razz1:). As long as I pay it before January 20th, I should be okay. But I can tell you this, if when I get my free credit report for the year (I think I can do that again at the end of June), and it is on my account, you can sure as hell bet that I’m going to dispute it. I hope it won’t be too late by that time.
All I can say is, I will NEVER get another car loan from Wells Fargo. Yeah, they were good for most of the duration of my loan. But at the end they’re morons. Great last impression Wells Fargo.
Yeah, I am not a big fan of Wells Fargo either. They have messed up on my account a few times. I am pretty sure you don’t have to worry about your credit report. I have had a few bills that didn’t get paid because they were lost in the mail. You have to really be late and continue to be late to mess up your credit report. It is about that time of the year for me to get my credit report again too. This year I am just going to get one and then get the other two in four and eight months. That way I can keep up with it throughout the year. You gotta love annualcreditreport.com.
