The waiting begins
I did it. I couldn’t wait any longer. Tonite I bought a laptop. :dancin: :G-roflol: I have been waiting to be able to do this for over a year. I ordered it from Dell. I configured it online but called to talk to a rep and order via phone. I just wanted to be sure I knew what I was doing. The rep configured the system exactly how I had done it online, so I decided to place my order.
The system was $913 after a $300 discount. He applied that automatically. I did have a coupon code, but I guess I didn’t have to use it.I get FREE Next Day shipping. That rocks!! So only tax was applied to the price. My complete system came to $966.76 … well under what I had to work with. Now I have more to use for toys.
One of the reasons the system was under $1000 was because I didn’t get any Office software installed. That was because they have Office Home and Student 2007 on sale at Best Buy for $119 this week. That’s a savings of $30. It was a no-brainer to leave that out of the configuration. I’ll need to get a router too, but they’ve got the one I’ve been looking at at Best Buy and Office Max or Office Depot for $49.99. Other than that, I’ll probably get a mouse, and I’ll definitely get a carrying bag. I’ll just have to wait and see if I need anything else.
Did I do a good job? This is my first laptop, so some of the things I was a little unsure of. I stuck with most of the default options. Here’s the configuration I went with …

I had wanted the Espresso Brown color, but it wasn’t available without a web cam, and I didn’t want one. Plus, that saved me $50 ($25 for the color and $25 for the web cam).
According to the info for my order, the estimated ship date is January 8th. That sucks. But at least I’ll get it the day after it ships. And hopefully :crossfingers: :crossfingers: :crossfingers: it will be done and shipped even before that. It’s already marked as ‘In Production’. I guess my credit was already approved. That’s good. It should be. There’s plenty in my account to cover it and leave some to play with. THAT definitely feels good.
I just wish I didn’t have to wait to get it. I HATE waiting. I’m such an impatient person.
Is it here yet? Is it here yet? Is it here yet? :nailbite: :nailbite: :nailbite:
That sounds like a sweet laptop. Even sweeter since you were able to get XP on. Hopefully time flies for you so it can be in your hands.
Sounds sweet, but why XP? Do you got some old software that doesn’t run on Vista?
Mace … I went with XP based on what a friend told me and other stuff I’ve heard about Vista. My friend says Vista is really hard to get used to. And I’ve read online about compatibility issues. I’ve got an older printer and don’t really want to upgrade. I want to make sure I can still use it. I’m sure that at some point in the future, I’ll upgrade, but it took me quite a while to upgrade to XP on my desktop.
